As our original due date of March 3rd came and went we started to wonder just when this little bundle of love would grace us all with her presence, and it seemed like she was quite happy where she was. Nikki at this point was very ready to have her amongst us, for multiple reasons. So it was that on March 10th we went to the hospital late at night for a scheduled induction. Coincidentally, the baby also decided that it was go time, so before the doctors could even begin things she started to go naturally into labor.
The 9 hours of labor that followed were incredibly surreal because, while it hurt incredibly, there was still this discussion of "we will be meeting our daughter soon" between us, which really helped to try putting things into focus. At 7:43am she finally was delivered and for the first time we got to see her, hear her, and enjoy this beautiful child.
Emma Christine Majka
For those not familiar with it the significance of it, Christine was the name of my older sister who died at the age of 17 in a car accident. She and I were really close, and she never treated me like an annoying younger brother. We felt that giving Emma that as a middle name was a way to help my sister - Nikki's sister-in-law and Emma's aunt - live on. One day we'll explain to Emma why it was so important to us.
