One of the things we had grown to absolutely dread by this time in our attempts to successfully have a baby was the agonizing Skype call to our respective parents to inform them that we were pregnant. We know our parents love us, and they have always shared in our grief as we suffered one miscarriage after another. Having to call them every time to let them know that we were pregnant and the baby wasn't doing well was extremely painful.
After having finally heard our baby's heartbeat for the first time we had now been through 16 days of knowing we were pregnant and that things were going well for the little one. Given the circumstances of every pregnancy before this we never got to experience that baby-announcement-joy that so many other people get to - every one of ours was practically negative from the very beginning. After hearing the heartbeat we wanted to do the best we could to try to have as close to a happy baby announcement as we could (we were not out of the woods yet but things were looking good).
Five days after our heartbeat appointment we told our families over Skype. As a family that helped us get through a difficult two years of losses, their reactions were everything we had hoped for.
